Following in the footsteps of those who came before....
Dr. Laurence M Fisher came to Ashtabula to practice optometry after working in the Youngstown area, home of his wife’s (Bess’s) family. He bought the practice from a retiring doctor and first examined patients in an upstairs office on Main Avenue. Later, he moved the office to the first floor of a home on Park Place facing South Park, and in about 1985, the practice moved to the Professional Building at 355 Prospect Road.
Dr. Fisher came from an optometric family, with his father and brother being his contemporaries at the Illinois College of Optometry. Dr. Fisher had a solo practice (except for a short time when he was joined by his nephew, Steve Curtis, OD) until August 1988 when he was joined by Jean A Wrightnour, OD, a former schoolmate of his son, Jim.
Drs. Fisher and Wrightnour practiced as partners from January 1989 until Dr Fisher’s retirement in December 1992.
After Dr. Fisher’s retirement, Dr. Wrightnour moved the practice to 517B Prospect Road in May 1993. The practice became incorporated (Jean A Wrightnour, OD, Inc) in February 1996. As best as she can figure, the doctors of this office have been continuously caring for the people in the Ashtabula area since at least the 1930s.
Today, Jean A. Wrightnour, OD, Inc. is completely computerized, and incorporates the latest state-of-the-art technology in order to give you the best possible eye care.
